Your Counseling Experience Should Feel Like The Right Fit—One That Reflects Your Needs, Goals, & Hopes For Where You’re Headed.
The Mind Behind Hopeful Mind
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY, COUPLES COUNSELING
Katelyn Mandeville, M.Ed., ALC
Hi, I’m Katelyn—but most folks call me Katie! I’m an Associate Licensed Counselor, and I created Hopeful Mind Counseling around a pretty simple belief: therapy should be a place where you can show up as a real person, not a perfectly polished version of yourself.
I earned both my bachelor’s degree in psychology and my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University. Throughout my clinical experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work with adolescents, adults, couples, veterans, and people navigating everything from anxiety, trauma, and major life transitions to complicated relationships, identity, self-esteem, and those seasons of life where you know something needs to change—you’re just not quite sure what yet.
What Working With Me Is Like
My style is warm, conversational, curious, and collaborative. I’m not the kind of counselor who wants to silently nod from across the room—I want therapy to feel like a genuine conversation. There’s room for the hard stuff, but also for humor, celebrating wins, calling out patterns, and the occasional “Okay...let me start over” when I trip over my words.
I take an integrative approach, pulling from psychodynamic therapy, CBT, DBT, and other evidence-based approaches based on what works for you. We might dig into your past, relationships, and the patterns that keep following you—or focus on practical tools to help with what’s happening right now.
Individuals, Couples & Relationships
Relationships are a big part of the work I enjoy. Whether you come in individually or with a partner, I’m interested in what’s happening underneath the conflict. Together, we can explore communication, attachment, emotional needs, boundaries, recurring patterns, and how your experiences have shaped the way you connect with others.
I also have experience working with veterans and recognize that people and their experiences don’t always fit neatly into a diagnostic box. I’m interested in understanding you, not just a list of symptoms.
Come As You Are
You can be funny and struggling. Successful and overwhelmed. Independent and still need support. You can swear, cry, ramble, bring notes, or walk in saying, “Okay, you are not going to believe what happened this week.” Therapy can be meaningful without feeling painfully clinical.
My job isn’t to tell you how to live your life. It’s to help you understand yourself, recognize what may no longer be serving you, and make changes that actually fit your life.
You bring your experiences. I’ll bring curiosity, compassion, practical tools, and probably a few questions that make you think. We’ll figure out the rest together.
Supervision & Mentorship
I’m incredibly grateful for the clinicians and mentors who have helped shape me along the way. The team at Madison Counseling Associates has played an important role in my growth as a counselor, providing guidance, encouragement, and invaluable experience throughout my clinical training and transition into professional practice.
I’m also fortunate to be working under the supervision of Stacie Scherer, MA, LPC-S, NCC, at Serenity Counseling of Huntsville, whose support and guidance have already been incredibly valuable to my professional growth and skillset. I look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and strengthen my work as a clinician through our time together and believe it will greatly impact my clinical work with clients!
